The Venue - Emperors Palace

Emperor’s Palace is arguably South Africa’s most prestigious convention centre. The sumptuous convention halls and elegant function rooms, four luxurious hotels and a wide selection of restaurants, makes it the ideal venue to hold an international convention. Being right next to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport with shuttles running non-stop to the Palace, out-of-town delegates can fly in and fly out without having to worry about car hire and highways. It is also easily accessible for Gauteng delegates, being right next to the R21 highway linking Johannesburg to Pretoria. The newly opened Gautrain provides another easy access option from all areas of Gauteng. For more information: www.emperorspalace.co.za

This venue is wheelchair friendly!

"DREAMS" Quilt Challenge

The quilt challenge theme for 2012 is "Dreams".  Click here to get all the details so that you can start planning your entry!

After exhibition at IQCAfrica 2012, this quilt collection will be going touring abroad.

First stop will be at the 18th European Patchwork Meeting in Saint-Marie-Aux-Mines in Alsace, France from 13 - 16 September 2012. This historic French mining town was the birthplace of the Amish movement in1693.  Considering how far South African quilting has come, it is fitting that our first collection visits the place where patchwork was first elevated to an art form.

The challenge has closed! We are currently evaluation each entry and will contact each entrant shortly.

The Quilt Exhibition

A cross section of quilt and fibre-art exhibitions will be on display in the Quilt Arena and in the foyers. These will include various travelling exhibitions from various countries as well two South African exhibitions.

The following exhibits are already confirmed:

  • "Tangle" - European Patchwork Meeting international contest 2011. A selection of 35 quilts from all over the world, including one each by the three judges: Elisabeth Nasenta de la Croix (CH); Katie Pasquini Masopust (US);  and Cosabeth Parriaud (FR).

  • "Major Minors" - A special exhibition by the Fibreworks group of fibre and textile artists.

  • "The Unspoken Truth about Color - a dialogue in art quilts about racism" - A thought-provoking exhibition by the Fiber Artists for Hope group (US).

  • "Dreams" - IQCAfrica Challenge. Quilts from all over Africa.

  • "Movie Directors" - Japanese, French and SA challenge.

  • Private collections - Our talented teachers will be displaying some of their best quilts.

The Vendors' Emporium

The Vendors' Emporium comprises an area of 1 288 m² with 47 vendor stalls all housed in professionally built shell-scheme booths with good lighting. These will be occupied by a number of International brands; all leading Southern African quilting and sewing retailers as well as top sewing machine brands, enabling quilters to see and buy the latest fabrics, notions and sewing machines - all under one roof. In addition, the fabric houses will be doing promotions and running competitions - lots of fun for all!
